Stop Trying To Go Viral!

The Downfall Of Social Media

Preventing Us From Showing Up

Everyone, in some capacity, wants to go viral. Business owners want 10,000 followers because then they could “swipe up” on their stories (and some businesses even buy followers to get that feature).

Most social media users admit that they feel a rush when they have a “new like” or “new follower”.

I am sure you’ve even seen people delete posts that didn’t get enough love. #feltcutemightdeletelater …. Heck, you might have even deleted a post.

Why you ask? There is scientific proof that people like social media because it triggers oxytocin production (that feel good hormone). We are also in a day and age where we use social media for inspiration, accountability, proof, and bragging rights.

We are all being fed impressions at a rapid rate but what if those impressions are keeping you from showing up? What if you don’t post because your hard work doesn’t go viral?

Your Business Being Seen

The simple idea behind marketing is being seen… We all want to be seen and to be accepted. We all want our business and company to be seen and accepted.

We craft beautifully created posts. We spend time writing persuasive content. We even dance on camera. All expecting to be seen and accepted by hundreds? Thousands? Millions?

It’s easy to measure the success of your posts by:

  • the likes/ hearts/ thumbs up

  • the impressions

  • the views

But what happens when the algorithm isn’t in your favor? What happens when you don’t go viral?

We Stop Showing Up

We have all been there…. We spent alot of time crafting a beautiful post, spending time on writing beautiful and persuasive copy, only to have the post flop.

When we show up and don’t immediately get the recognition we think our posts deserves, we get discouraged.

It’s easy to compare our small business with corporate giants and established influencers. But when we keep comparing we go into a vicious cycle. We start scrolling more. We become consumers rather than creators.

That consuming mindset is a hard place to show up from… Doubt slips in and it’s hard to irradiate.

Fixing The Issue

We need to realize that the social media algorithm is against you! But going viral wasn’t always the answer for the perfect marketing plan. Infact, virility doesn’t even guarantee success.

Before social media, marketing was expensive. The only way to reach new people was word-of-mouth, tv, radio, billboards, and print ads. This form of marketing took time to build trust and relationships.

Now we expect everything we do to lead to instantaneous success…. But that’s not the case.

Showing Up To Serve…

Even though the algorithm is against us, social media still holds the keys to serve our ideal customers in a BIG WAY!

The ability to help and lead is easier than ever before.

When we stop looking at likes and start stepping into the ability to serve people who need our service/ offer/ product, we stop caring how many post likes we received and start showing up because we know our business can make someone’s life better.

Yes, going viral is good but do you have the marketing strategy and plan to support that ONE post hitting it big?

Questions To Ask

Get away from posting from likes and start posting to serve.

  1. How can I help my ideal customers today?

  2. How can I entertain my customers today?

  3. How can I lead/ guide my customers today?

Also when we stop comparing ourselves, we realized that we have something to offer that can change the world for the better.

We no longer play the instant gratification game and start showing up for the long haul… Building and crafting lasting relationships… Growing our business in an authentic way.
